Vintage Denim Skirt

Size 10-12 (approx) skirt made from size 14 soft denim shorts.

1) Cut the crotch area - just the fabric joining the two legs.

2) Extend seams at front/back to form a straight seam using a straight stitch.
3) Cut off excess fabric.
4) Gather waistband tightly to create gathered skirt (may be left to create a-line skirt).

This project was super easy and the result looks great! It took me only a few minutes and I didn't even need to sit down at my sewing machine.

I paired this skirt with:

  • Polka dot 3/4 sleeve pussybow blouse (Store 21)
  • Chunky pearls
  • Brown suede/leather brogues (Primark)
  • Brown leather bag (TU)

Unfortunately I have no 'before' photos as this was my first project and I hadn't though ahead.

Sewing and cooking are coming back into 'fashion' now as financial times are rough for everyone, so what better time to join the craze?

I've always had a passion for sewing and creativity and now wish to put it to some use; I aim for this blog to demonstrate how old, unwanted clothes can be transformed into new, unique and most importantly wearable ones.

Lots of people don't like charity shops although I buy lots of my clothes from them. They're cheaper than high street shops, unique pieces can be found and you're benefiting the charity which I'm all in favour for. However, it can be tricky to find something you love in your size or in the right style which is where a sewing machine and a few simple steps come in to use.

Enjoy and please do try this at home,

Jodie
